What makes Case School of Dental Medicine different?

Strong Clinical Experience

There's no substitute for extensive clinical experience, and we believe it should start in the freshman year. From day one, you'll be involved in our award-winning Healthy Smiles Sealant Program. It's a mandatory part of our curriculum - and all our students love it. In the clinic, we've made changes to more closely resemble the workings of a real-world dental practice. Students are organized into groups simulating small practices, complete with their own Patient Care Coordinator to help schedule patients and organize their schedules to get the most experience out of their valuable time in the clinic. And our unique Preceptor Program brings experienced, practicing dentists into the clinics to work with our students.

Evolving Curriculum

Even at a clinically oriented dental school like ours, clinical knowledge is built upon a firm foundation of the basic sciences. State-of-the-art Dental Simulation Clinic

Our state-of-the-art Dental Simulation Clinics have flattened the learning curves associated with preparation and handpiece techniques. Less time in the lab means more time in the clinics. Our new Dental Simulation Clinic provides the best in dental education technology. As part of their pre-clinical experiences, first and second-year dental students will learn the art of tooth preparation in patient virtual reality settings. By combining the hi-tech dental simulators with sound education, professors and students both benefit through a more efficient and effective teaching tool. Students are able to learn on their own and at their own pace.

Practice Management

Perhaps the most complete Practice Management curriculum in the U.S. gives Case graduates the tools to be successful practitioners in addition to being excellent dentists. Our approach to the clinical aspects of the profession has been extended to practice management so that you'll learn all the managerial and entrepreneurial aspects of running a not-so-small business. By the time you graduate you'll be equipped to succeed as a clinician and as a business manager.

Your DMD Degree

Until recently students received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at Case. However, we recently adopted the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in recognition of the changing nature of dentistry. Dr. Jerold Goldberg, Dean of the School of Dental Medicine , said it best: "Dentistry has evolved over the years. Right now it is more about prevention and using the newest knowledge, technology and materials to design treatments relevant to health problems that affect the well being of populations as well as individuals." With a focus on keeping people healthy, the new degree reflects the way dentists are rethinking their profession.
